A nine-year-old boy has tragically lost his life in a car accident. The hit and run occurred in Bundoran, Co Donegal, on Saturday night, and it marked one of three fatal incidents in separate car accidents within a six-hour timeframe.
The young boy was struck by a vehicle on Atlantic Way at approximately 9.20pm. Despite the dedicated efforts of emergency services, he was sadly declared deceased at the scene shortly thereafter.
Regrettably, the vehicle involved in the collision did not remain at the scene, leading to traffic diversions being implemented on Sunday to facilitate forensic investigations.
Gardaà are urgently appealing to any witnesses and, in particular, are urging the driver of the vehicle to come forward.
The young boy hailed from the Kildress area of Co Tyrone in the Republic of Ireland, and it has been reported that planned events in the village have been canceled, as reported by the Irish Independent.
