Squid Game season 2 confirmed by creator as he promises return of pivotal character

Squid Game season 2 is officially in the works, as the creator of the hit Netflix series promises the return and an important mission for a pivotal character.

Ever since Squid Game was released earlier this year, the South Korean drama has taken the world by storm, gripping audiences as they watch the plight of people in severe debt taking on a sadistic game for the slim chance of winning a fortune.

It has become Netflix’s most-watched series to date, surpassing the viewing figures of period drama Bridgerton.

With season one of Squid Game ending on a huge cliffhanger, many fans are desperate to find out what happens in the story next.

Thankfully, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that the second season is officially in the works.

Speaking to the Associated Press, he said: ‘So there’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season.

‘So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say, there will indeed be a second season.’

The screenwriter added that the ideas ‘in my head right now’, as he is in the ‘planning process’ at the moment.

‘But I do think it’s too early to say when and how it’s going to happen. So I will promise you this… Gi-hun will come back, he’ll do something for the world.’

Despite the huge success of Squid Game, the creator recently revealed that it was rejected by studios for 10 years when he struggled to source funding for the show.

Speaking to The Korea Times, he said: ‘After about 12 years, the world has changed into a place where such peculiar, violent survival stories are actually welcomed.’

Now that the creator of Squid Game has revealed he’s planning how the second season will play out, fans will undoubtedly start speculating how the story will progress after the season one finale.
