Search on for convicted killer on the loose after failing to return to prison

A manhunt is underway after a violent killer who murdered his girlfriend went on the run.

The public has been warned not to approach Jason Mills, 49, last seen in Bristol on Wednesday morning.

He vanished after failing to return to HMP Leyhill in Gloucestershire while on day release.

Mills was jailed for murdering mum-of-one Toni Mills, 24, in 2001.

During his court case, it was revealed he had 99 previous convictions, including theft, fraud and firearms offences.

The fugitive was wearing a black Nike cap, black vest, blue coat, blue jeans and white Adidas trainers when he disappeared.

Avon & Somerset Police said: ‘Can you help us find Jason Mills? Mills attended Bridewell Police Station in Bristol at 9.45am yesterday (Wednesday 6 April) but failed to return to HMP Leyhill as required…

‘Mills was convicted of a domestic murder in 2001. He is known to have links to Essex, where the offence took place.’

Anyone who sees him has been told to call 999, while those with other information can ring 101.
