‘Screaming’ junior doctor has acid thrown over her in horror doorstep attack

A junior doctor was the victim of an horrific acid attack which has left her with potentially life changing injuries.

Doctor Rym Alaoui was rushed to hospital after the noxious substance was thrown over her in Brighton last week and she remains in hospital.

Police responded to a report of a substance being thrown over the victim in the doorway of a property in Steine Gardens around 4.20pm on Thursday May, 20.

One neighbour told how they heard a “really bad scream” before seeing Ms Alaoui being led out of the property with a blanket over her head.

“I think the whole street heard the scream,” the neighbour said. “I came running down because I couldn’t see anything from the window because it sounded like a scream that you never want to hear.

“A serious scream. I knew it was a young lady.

“I couldn’t work out where the noise had come from, I came back in and then the next minute there was a load of police and ambulance outside. She had a blanket over her.”

A second neighbour described how they saw an “acid attack kit” on the road outside the property after the attack.

He said: “I went out at about 9pm to get some bits from the shop and there was a plastic box with a printed note inside that said ‘acid attack kit’.”

Medical student Milad Rouf has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and administering poison with intent to endanger life.

The 25-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at crown court on June 28, after a hearing before Brighton Magistrates’ Court.

A spokesman from Sussex Police said: “Anyone who has information which could help our investigation into the assault should report online or ring 101 quoting Operation Overstone.”
