Mum holds appears in court charged with murdering ‘happy’ son, 2, at home

A MUM charged with murdering her two-year-old son at their home has held in head in her hands as she appeared in court today.

Natalie Steele, 31, is accused of killing her young son Reid, two, at their home in the Parkwood Heights estate in Bridgend, South Wales.

Little Reid was rushed to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, in a critical condition but died later in hospital after doctors battled to save his life.

Steele, 31, was initially arrested on suspicion of murder and was held under the Mental Health act.

She has now been charged with his murder.

Steele appeared at Cardiff Crown Court today via video link from HMP Eastwood Park, Wales Online reported.

During the hearing, Steele placed her head face-down on a table and held it in her arms.

Steele wore a grey tracksuit and spoke only to confirm her name.

Prosecutor Michael Jones said a preliminary post-mortem report had been prepared.

Judge Michael Fitton remanded Steele in custody until a plea and trial preparation hearing on November 26.

A trial date is yet to be set.

Paying tribute to the toddler, Reid’s family said in a statement: “He was a super, super-happy, gorgeous, wonderful and intelligent little boy who lit up everyone’s lives.

“He loved the garden and the beach, picking raspberries and going for walks collecting shells.

“He was a very chatty little boy and would happily speak to anyone.”
