SNOW is forecast to blanket the UK during a three-day -7°C polar blast. Wintry showers could bring up to 11 inches of snow following 75mph winds and flash floods that caused chaos over the New Year period.
The Met Office has issued multiple weather warnings, including snow warnings for Scotland today and tomorrow, with nearly all of England and Wales expected to be affected between Saturday and Monday.
This could result in up to 20cm of snow on higher ground in the Pennines and parts of Wales as an Atlantic frontal system takes hold. The Met Office has described the snow as “heavy” during this time, with the warning in place from midday on Saturday until 9am on Monday.
The forecaster stated: “Outbreaks of rain spreading northeastwards later on Saturday and overnight into Sunday will likely be preceded by a spell of snow on its northern flank.
“Whilst there is a fair bit of uncertainty as to how far north this may spread, and how long any snow will last, significant accumulations of snow are possible, especially on hills.” Travel disruptions are anticipated, with the potential for power cuts and rural communities being isolated.
