Man rushed to hospital after ‘serious’ attack by gang of youth at beach during heatwave

A MAN has been rushed to hospital following a ‘serious’ attack at a busy Ayrshire beach.

Emergency services were called to Irvine beach at around 5pm yesterday, Thursday August 11, after reports of a disturbance near the car park involving a group of youths.

A 23-year-old man was taken to University Hospital Crosshouse.

He was released later that evening following treatment for his injuries.

The attack happened while punters flocked to their nearest beach amid soaring temperatures across the country.

Cops are now appealing for witnesses or anybody who was in the area who may have dash-cam footage that could assist with their enquiry.

Detective Constable Lorna Kerr said: “The beach has been very busy this week and I would ask any witnesses who were in the area at the time, or anyone with information about the incident, to please get in touch.

“Saltcoats CID can be contacted via 101, quoting reference 2770 of 11 August, 2022. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
