A television reporter has died after being shot by her boyfriend, who then shot himself in the head. Semra Demirelli, 25, fought for her life in hospital for 49 days following the horrific attack in Turkey.
Semra’s boyfriend, 26-year-old Vahap Selim Çetin, reportedly went to her home after an argument over “jealousy”. The shooting occurred in the district of Karacabey, Bursa Province, around midday on 15 November 2024.
The dispute unfolded at Semra’s home while her mother was also present. It is unclear whether her mother was injured in the attack or if Semra was shot in her presence.
The man allegedly shot the young woman, who worked for a local television station, with a firearm he had brought with him. She was rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound to the back of her neck.
Vahap fled the scene before turning the gun on himself. He was still alive when taken to Fethi Sekin City Hospital but succumbed to the self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly thereafter.
