A great-grandmother who was strangled to death in her home has been described as a ‘loving wife, mother and friend’.
Mildred Whitmore, 84, was found dead at her property on College Street, in Nuneaton, on Tuesday morning.
Warwickshire Police say a post mortem revealed she died from asphyxiation.
A man, 31, who was arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody.
Mrs Whitmore’s heartbroken family paid an emotional tribute to her in a statement, saying: ‘Mildred was the queen of our family. A loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma and friend.
‘Mildred would find great enjoyment from spending time with her family and pottering around her garden.
‘Everyone who knew her would agree she was a loving gentle lady, who will be greatly missed by all that were lucky enough to know her.’
Investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Caroline Corfield, from Warwickshire Police, added: ‘We’re continuing to investigate this incident and our thoughts very much remain with Mildred’s family.
