A SCHOOL has paid tribute to one of its pupils who died after “a tragic incident in the community”.
The year-eight teen, from Outwood Academy Shafton in Barnsley, South Yorks., died in hospital on Monday.
Announcing the news in a statement on Twitter, the school said the student died surrounded by their loved ones.
It wrote: “Following a tragic incident in our community last week, it is with sorrow and grief that we are sharing with you that a Y8 student has sadly died this morning in hospital, surrounded by loved ones. Our thoughts are with family and friends.”
The academy has since revealed it will offer counselling services for those who need, Yorkshire Live reports.
Alison McQueen, Principal at Outwood Academy Shafton said: “As a school community we are devastated by the loss of one of our students following a tragic incident last week.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with their family and friends at this difficult time.
“Although our school year is over, we will be running a drop in service on Monday 25th July from 9:30am – 11:30am so students can access support if they need it.”
The pupil’s death is said not to be being treated as suspicious.
