Baby girl dies after being rushed to hospital

A baby girl has died after being rushed to hospital with a woman in her 20s arrested over the tot’s death.

Police swarmed a street in Exeter at around 9.30am on Sunday after concerns were raised for the welfare of a baby girl.

The child was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead and police say her death is currently being treated as unexplained.

A woman in her 20s has been arrested in connection with the investigation and released on police bail.

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police are continuing their enquiries in the area and are awaiting a forensic post-mortem exam to be carried out, DevonLive reports.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Police were called to an address in the Commercial Road area of Exeter by the ambulance service around 9.30am on Sunday 24 July after concern was raised for the welfare of a baby girl.

“The child was taken to hospital where, sadly, she was pronounced as deceased. The death is being treated as unexplained.

“Police enquiries continue and officers await the results of a forensic post-mortem examination.

“A woman in her 20s has been arrested in connection with the investigation and released on police bail.”
