Royal baby name bookies odds on the favourites

Meghan Markle gave birth to a baby boy this morning with her husband Prince Harry by her side, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

Some people believed that Prince Harry dropped a hint that the royal baby was already born when the palace confirmed that he would be visiting the Netherlands later this week for an official engagement.

As it turns out, the baby still hadn’t arrived when the announcement was made, instead Meghan had to wait four more days before going into labour.

Early odds had suggested that many expected her to give birth to a baby girl, but it has since been confirmed that a boy will be joining

Prince Harry: ‘I haven’t been at many births, this is definitely my first’

What are the royal baby name odds?

Speaking after the birth of his new son, Prince Harry said: ‘We’re still thinking about the names, the baby’s a little bit overdue so we’ve had some time to think about it.

‘That’s the next bit, but for us we’ll see you in two days so everyone can see the baby.’

Arthur is the current favourite to be the name of the new royal baby at 5/1 each, according to odds from Coral.

This is followed by the name of the new baby’s grandfather as Philip is currently at 6/1.

Albert and James are then both available at 8/1, followed by Alexandra and Alfred at 10/1.

Thomas is the next most likely with Coral offering 12/1 odds, while it is 14/1 that Spencer will be Meghan and Harry’s first choice.

Charles, Edward, Henry and Robert are some of the less likely options that the couple are expected to choose, with all of them currently having odds of 16/1.

Many of the early bets suggested that there was a strong belief that the royal couple’s first child would be a girl, with Coral reporting that over 80% of the bets had been for girls’ names.
