Panic as Suffolk police find grenades and mystery chemicals in house sparking evacuation of 60 homes

POLICE found military grenades and chemicals at a home in Suffolk today, sparking a mass evacuation.

Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal officers have been called to the scene in Lowestoft to examine the two grenades and unidentified chemicals.

They are being assisted by Suffolk Fire and Rescue teams.

A man in his 50s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of a firearm, police said.

Police arrived at the property at 1pm this afternoon with a warrant when the discovered the life-threatening items inside.

At least 60 properties were evacuated and a 100-metre cordon is in place.

The area remains closed to motorists and pedestrians.
