Meghan Markle’s estranged father has spoken out about the birth of the new royal baby for the first time.
Thomas Markle said he was ‘delighted’ at the birth of his grandchild and said he was happy to hear both the Duchess of Sussex and her son were doing well.
He said: ‘I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honour.
‘GOD bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and GOD save the Queen.’
Mr Markle is currently at his home in Mexico – 5,500 miles away from Meghan and Harry’s home of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
Meghan’s mum, Doria Ragland, is currently with the couple at Frogmore Cottage and is said to be ‘overjoyed’ by the arrival of her first grandchild.
Baby Sussex – Mr Markle’s sixth grandchild – was born at 5.26am this morning, weighing in at a healthy 7lbs 3oz.
Mr Markle has not seen or spoken to his daughter since just after the wedding almost one year ago.
He was initially supposed to walk Meghan down the aisle, but pulled out shortly after being caught selling photos of himself to the paparazzi.
The former Hollywood lighting director suffered a heart attack shortly after the revelations went public, and he remained in Mexico for the duration of the wedding.
It is understood she and Prince Harry cut him out of their lives after he conducted a number of high-profile media interviews.
