Two people have been rushed to hospital “as a priority” after the man leapt from the upper floor of the mall this afternoon.
He fell on a female shopper at the busy centre in Stratford, east London, as emergency services were scrambled to the scene.
Shock pictures quickly emerged of passers-by rushing to the aid of the two people lying on the floor.
Other pictures showed stunned passers-by watching the horrifying aftermath as medical screens are placed around the scene.
One witness at the scene told Essex Live: “I was walking through the shopping centre to get to the station when I saw the barriers.
“They landed right outside the food court, which is the busiest place.
“It didn’t look good at the scene, the ambulance crew weren’t in a rush, which is never a good sign.”
The London Ambulance Service said in a statement at 5pm that two people have been rushed to hospital.
A spokesman said: “We were called at 3.59pm today to Westfield Shopping Centre, Stratford to reports of an incident.
“We sent two ambulance crews, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic and two single responders in cars to the scene.
“We treated two people at the scene and took them both to hospital as a priority.”
