Back in February Joan was rushed to hospital after falling ill and battling pneumonia.
A source close Gemma revealed the star was “absolutely distraught”.
Gemma and her family’s lives were turned upside down when Joan was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.
The Essex girl previously revealed she thought that her mum would die after experiencing ‘two years of hell’ and battled to fight the crippling disease.
Gemma has said of her mum’s condition: “I always tried to be really strong, so when I was with her I was happy, upbeat, like ‘Come on mum, you’re gonna be alright!’
“Then I’d leave the house, get in my car and cry for hours.
“I used to ring my friends and say ‘I just don’t know what I can do to help my mum,’ it was the worst thing.
“Mentally I really noticed mum getting depressed and seeing her like that was just terrible.
“We saw lots of different doctors and not many people knew what was wrong with her.
“There were moments where me, my dad and my brother said, ‘Mum’s going to die’.”
