Cumbria Police has confirmed three people “were assaulted” and all rushed to hospital
Three people have been injured after reports of a random stabbing in a small market town.
Two people are in a serious condition while another has been hurt following the incident in Wigton, Cumbria.
Police and emergency services were called to the scene just before 2pm to reports of woman and two men being assaulted in two separate locations.
All three were taken to hospital.
Reports on social media suggest they have been stabbed but this has not been confirmed.
One person described seeing a “man drenched in blood”.
They added: “Air ambulance circling overhead, police and ambulance vehicles all over the place.”
A 52-year-old man has been arrested.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Police are currently dealing with an incident in Wigton.
“A 52-year-old man from has been arrested following an incident where three people were assaulted.
“At 1:50pm it was reported to police that three people were assaulted in Wigton.
“A woman was injured on Church Street.
“Two men were also injured on King Street.
“All three are being taken to hospital.
“Police and NWAS are in attendance at the scene.
“We are working quickly to establish the circumstances of what has occurred and who is involved.”
A huge police cordon has also been put in place.
A spokesman from the Great North Air Ambulance added: “We were called out at 2pm, and arrived in Wigton 10 minutes later.
“Our crews are currently on the scene.”
